Frank,
I know what you mean about a lot of art. Here’s my take. Most art is crap. The business of art is all crap. Taking pleasure in the visual nature of objects and creations is a true pleasure, but the whole idea of “the Artist” as a unique worshiped brave soul offering us a glimpse into his artistic vision is basically a scam. I find pleasure and have a passion for enjoying my environment and find beauty wherever I find it, I don’t buy the whole notion that it has to be hung on a wall, or created with a pedigree. I agree with you that most of art world is a endless retarded fantasy based on the emperors new clothes. The downside to this point of view is that is places us, in the eyes of some, in league with the great unwashed masses. Perhaps the only thing more annoying than people who think they are artists, are the majority of people who find no visual joy in anything. The people who don’t appreciate the artistic spirit at all. That’s the danger of our point of view and I think that the fear of falling in with that visionless viewpoint, combined with the fear being seen as inferior or as one who just doesn’t get it, kinda bullies people into calling a pile of steel brilliant.
Hey I was just listening to episode 606 and I just wanted to let you know you didn’t count Lea Ann more than once, you have two listeners named Lea Ann. I’m the first Lea Ann…from Kansas City (Missouri, by the way). Hey are you going to post the pictures of the absinthe? It sounds very interesting. Also, your taste in music is very similar to mine. Although I don’t really like the White Stripes very much, The Alan Parsons Project was my very first favorite band.
Later,
Lea Ann
