liked the mention of Beatle Adventure Racing. Made me think of another game Tetrisphere, which was great, and was a long awaited Atari Jaguar title "phear" but in anycase Beatle Adventure racing and Tetrisphere are two forgotten great ones.

I'd be up for some ABM. Keep it fun, though. Don't get over-involved. If you guys have fun w/ each other such as you did in this episode, it would be very enjoyable to listen to. The 8 shows you did of ABM, I could always hear a little tension in Frank. Just keep it fun and only do it when you can. Maybe a little add-on to ONS. It was great to hear Mister Mad Mike again, btw.
Cheers.

Personally, I don't think ABM would be a good idea right now. You've got a nice groove going with your show and Nightstation. Be careful of overfilling your plate. Just my $ 0.02.

If only those failed podcasters understood the concept of lifestyle marketing!

I totally disagree with you that there will ever be an appreciation of the early days of podcasting when the content was diverse and plentiful. I miss it too because I remember as a listener I had so much content to choose from people in all walks of life. But I don't think that archaeologists will value podcast content over any other form of dead electronic communication like personal Geocities pages or abandoned blogs and MySpace pages.

It is interesting to think about, though, because then your copies of old shows would have a sort of secondary market value like old comic books. Much like old comics that were discarded without thought to their future value, not many people thought to keep their copies of old podcasts. But the advantage comics have is that it is easier to get an idea of what titles existed. WIth old podcasts that's impossible. Still, it would be interesting to see a market evolve around the trading of old extinct podcast episodes.

I know of one podcast called BeingADudeCast that effectively holds their old episodes for ransom and sells them as whole seasons. It's an interesting way to monetize the content and keep bandwidth transfer to a minimum I guess. But since their format is mostly fart and dick jokes I'm not compelled to pay them for the old stuff. If it was content like interviews with Steve Jobs and George Lucas then I wouldn't mind paying but as it stands their crude lifestyle isn't something I'm in the market for.

I imagine Christians would have you believe that every lost cell phone not returned was found by a Satanist.

I have found cellphones on multiple occasions and just drop them off at lost and founds or the nearest Toys R Us. The last time it happened I called the woman who owned the phone and told her to go get it at Toys R Us. A meeting would have been uncomfortable so I left. I wish I would have taken a picture of my penis with it, though.

I find a lot of credit cards on the ground when I'm on my bike. Those are nothing but trouble and are best disposed of immediately. But oftentimes I have the urge to put them in different places from where I found them. One fantasy I have is I'd stick them inside brand new purses and pants at Target so it would seem like they're selling used clothes.

If I got a single hit on my site from someone who downloaded dozens of gigs all at once I would freak out.

As someone with a four-year-old I have seen the next green puppet idol and it is Brobee from Yo Gabba Gabba.

The spirited away by the gods scenario is unlikely in many cases because some people would rather stay with their families than leave behind everything they love. Michael Jackson had an awesome game room in his basement that I would find hard to give up if I were him. If the secret civilization in the sky is real then it could not afford to have its existence revealed, which would be likely if even one person turned down the invitation. So the only other explanation is abduction by the gods. Steve Jobs was abducted by the gods and he needs our help! That would make for the plot of a good action movie.

I do believe Steve Jobs faked his death for at least a couple of days because he could and because he wanted to monitor all the tributes to him online.

Hi Frank, this was an interesting show especially since you spoke about Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip. I have recently finished watching the complete series on Netflix Streaming. I was going to recommend you do the same however after checking the show is no longer available on streaming but only on disks. I don't know if you have an account but I think it would be worth the rental.

I would agree with you that the show lacked a commitment to the subject and became a free for all for all sorts of political agenda. The parts that did address the show production issues were interesting as was the character development. While it is not a must see program I would say it is definitely worth the time to watch

Keep up the good work Frank, Mike from Green Bay.

The art thing is a complicated issue. As I said in the show, I am very intrigued by this whole "20th Century Art" thing - and I do love going to MoMA and seeing everything they have there. But I have to say, I have always had a discomfort about a lot of art - thoughts which I suppressed when I was younger. I love all forms of pop culture and embrace fully comic books, video games, novels, movies, TV shows, rock, electronica, ragtime, etc. etc. And there is a lot of art I love. But when it comes to the more "abstract" stuff - I have to say I have always felt it was kind of a joke - it left me cold. I always felt there was something wrong with it. People don't read books written like "dfalkjhf alfjhk 98yad98h sdi9ufys98sdf jadf08jadf 0pa9dfu apfap 0a9dfu ", and don't listen to music with no musicality (except of WFMU, of course). So where exactly has this obsession with meaningless art come from? I can understand it being popular for a year or two as some kind of commentary or something - but it seems insane that it's gone on this long. Maybe... the whole thing is a longform piece of performance art... where over the course of 100+ years people go along with it... "No soap, radio" on a grand scale...??

Do you think there's a counter argument that could convince me otherwise? I'm open to hearing it.

Gee Frank you're losing me with this anti 20th century art stuff. For someone who has such a deep relationship to contemporary film, music and the graphic arts of the 20C I find it hard for you to separate and condemn visual art from this period. (Pop culture was coined after the 1960's art movement!) Dumping on art is too easy. Having trouble with de Kooning? perhaps you'll enjoy Robert Rauschenberg he famously made art by erasing a de Kooning. Art Renewal is a a goofy anti art site.. It's the equivalent of someone arguing against the jazz, blues and rock revolutions of the 20 C for the more "beautiful" classical music motifs of a century ago. I mean it's an argument but is this really where you stand? Not from what I've heard over the past 823 episodes.

Sarah has an opening at the end of the month I'll be sure to get her to invite you and D. All the best. Phil

Wow, great episode, there is a new film coming out called immortals which is something similar to what your talking about, one thing I think would be difficult to factor in within that theory is that if the gods where so advanced then why would they need raw materials at all, wouldn't they have reached the stage of alchemy or in today's terminology, a type of nano tech where we just programme molecules to make what we want. For example manufacturing different parts may not even be necessary because it would all be built in to the skin and bones of the structure. Also a lot of the quotes you refer to such as the bible say that the gods came from the sky, sometimes called the Elohim which is the literal translation this that from the sky come. So maybe the gods did not come from this planet or system. Another thing you mention is that the gods are still in control, if so where do they control from if they are deceased? From the spirit dimension? Or where they always in another realm?

Hey Frank

Yes, you still have South African listeners! At least three of us have been listening on and off since 2006.
I loved the Art of Noise back in the day (Paranoimia!)- needless to say, Instruments of Darkness never received radio airplay. Those bad old days are thankfully long gone now. Very few Bothas (pronounced bwoo-tah)left in politics. ;-P

cheers

I also have an Android phone. The original G1. Still works but gives me fits at times. Mostly because not many want to support the phone but I'm not upgrading yet! Which Android phone did you get?

Sorry to hear about the kitty :( I have two cats and can't imagine how hard that must be.

Great show and introduction back into The Overnightscape. Thanks for entertaining me at work :)

Hey Frank, great to hear you mention the band Mainframe and also the "Noise of Art" parody. I got rid of most of my vinyl years ago but for some reason kept the "Noise of Art" 12" and another Mainframe 7" ("5 minutes") They were a very short lived and 'unsuccessful' UK band, I've never found anyone else who'd ever heard of them ... until now !

I'm on vacation and was sitting on my sofa when the whole house started jumping. Seemed like when the washing machine goes off center and jumps around. Did not last too long but was cool to experience. My sons Joe and Mike both felt nothing. I feel lucky thay I actually got to feel it. NY TV did go wild with the news reports the same way they do with snow storms and the like.

I'm fairly mixed on this new Torchwood series. I agree that Captain Jack as well as Bill Pullman's character are quite brilliant...but everyone else are kind of forgettable. What I really miss is the "monster of the week" thing for this show as it was in it's 1st two seasons (which I think were by far the best). The entire season being dedicated to one plot (just like the "Children of Earth" one also) starts to wear a bit thin after a while. We'll wait and see how this one pans out...

Also Frank, I just started reading the 1st "Dark Tower" novel (after hearing all the hype)! Pretty cool so far...I can't wait to see how this series develops over the 7 books.

What I really miss is the “monster of the week” thing for this show as it was in it’s 1st two seasons (which I think were by far the best). The entire season being dedicated to one plot (just like the “Children of Earth” one also) starts to wear a bit thin after a while. We’ll wait and see how this one pans out…

Also Frank, I just started reading the 1st “Dark Tower” novel (after hearing all the hype)! Pretty cool so far…I can’t wait to see how this series develops over the 7 books.

I am glad that I never got into those superhero comics. I don't think even my mildly OCD could handle all this rebooting and renumbering.

Mister Rogers was soooo beyond extra-cool!! I am wary of this revival... There's a superb interview in that Archive of Television series, on the YouTube, with him, and indeed, he is exactly like himself... Real people... wow...

One of the best episodes you have done. That encounter in the Disney store was incredible. So fortuitous that you were recording. Kudos!

Pixie Sticks were always just SWEET. Sour crap is sour, pixie sticks taste about the same as ever, (cherry, grape and orange), the blue is a newer idea. I think you have them confused with some other candy. I never liked sour candies, so Ive always been a pixie stick dude. It is so hard to find a sweet-only candy, anymore.
